Rep. Bowers Named to Interim Committee

Topeka – Kansas Speaker of the House of Representatives Melvin Neufeld (R-Ingalls) announced today he has named Rep. Elaine Bowers (R-Concordia) to serve on the 2007 Assessment and Taxation Interim Committee.

“Rep. Bowers has been an essential member of the House Taxation Committee and will serve the House and all Kansans well on the interim committee,” Speaker Neufeld said. “With her personal experience as a small business owner, she brings a different perspective to the many important tax issues facing our state.”

The 13-member committee (eight House members and five Senate members) will meet six days between now and the 2008 Legislative Session to review and make recommendations:

  • Corporate Income Tax Shelters
  • Sales Tax Exemptions
  • Property Tax payment Date
  • Property Tax Deferral
  • Income Tax Withholding
  • Local Sales Tax Authority
  • Tax Relief for Storm-Damaged Property
  • Corporation Income Tax Credits
  • Property Taxes on Newly Constructed Residential Property

Rep. Bowers said she looks forward to serving on the Assessment and Taxation Interim Committee.

“The Taxation Committee is such an important committee to be assigned to - taxes effects us all and I am pleased as a business owner and Kansas citizen to be part of the process of creating fair tax policy for the state,” Rep. Bowers said.

Rep. Bowers represents the 107th District which includes Cloud, Lincoln, Ottawa and part of Dickinson Counties. She serves on the House Taxation; Federal and State Affairs and Agriculture and Natural Resources Committees.
